Organised by UCA Canterbury School of Architecture and Design, ‘reel-real: people & space’ is an open and free film series that explores the themes of everyday urban and domestic life in different cultures and societies through world cinema. The affinity between cinema and the city has been celebrated by both filmmakers and scholars from the fields of cultural and media studies, human geography, gender studies, architecture, and urbanism. In cinema, we can start a voyage in an unknown city, grasping its social milieus, spatial environments and cultural forms. Through the lens of film, students from different disciplines and levels are invited to learn, enjoy and understand varied stories, spaces, and aesthetics represented in cinema.
