Carla Novak

Associate Lecturer in Architecture



Carla Novak is a Director of Novak Hiles Architects, which she co-founded with Adam Hiles.
Novak Hiles Architects was named Finalist in the BD Young Architect of the Year Awards 2022 and Shortlisted for the RIBA J Rising Star Awards 2020.

Carla studied at UCA Canterbury School of Architecture where she was twice awarded the Portfolio Prize during her postgraduate studies. She was awarded the prestigious Grossman Scholarship for outstanding creative potential prior to undertaking an MA in Advanced Architectural Design from which she graduated with Distinction. Carla went on to qualify as an architect at the Bartlett School of Architecture UCL.

Before co-founding Novak Hiles Architects, Carla worked at a number of practices both in London and the South East, including international and award winning practice Farrells (London) LLP, where she gained considerable experience in many sectors including one-off private houses, heritage and listed buildings and led the delivery of several large scale complex commercial and residential schemes.

Carla's personal design work has been exhibited internationally, including a solo show in London and collectively at the American Institute of Architects in Houston and Dallas, USA. She was awarded an Honourable Mention in the 2011 Animal Architecture Awards.

Alongside work in practice, Carla has taught a vertical studio unit with Adam Hiles on the Masters in Architecture Part 2 course at Canterbury School of Architecture UCA since 2019. Carla has also been an invited guest critic at numerous other schools of architecture across the UK.
