MULTISTORY* Winter 2017/2018 Line-up



We’re delighted to announce our extraordinary MULTISTORY* 2017/2018 Winter line up of open lectures. Kicking things off will be our annual Alumni Pecha Kucha on Thursday 28th September at 1800.

This year, our speakers range again from writers, historians, artists, academics as well as architects, poets, developers and curators.
MULTISTORY* lectures run from 1800 – 1900 on Thursday evenings in the Architecture Foyer at UCA Canterbury, unless otherwise stated. Details for each event are posted here in advance.

Tom Dyckhoff // ARCHITECTURAL HISTORIAN & BROADCASTER

Tom Dyckhoff is a historian, writer and broadcaster about architecture, cities, design and places.
He is presenter of BBC2’s The Great Interior Design Challenge and has recently published his first book The Age of Spectacle.

Jonas Žukauskas // Architect & Architectural Researcher

In 2016, he co-curated the Baltic Pavilion at the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale. Jonas received his Diploma from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in 2014, prior to which he studied at London Metropolitan University and Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts. In 2012, together with Jurga Daubaraite and Ines Weizman, he co-curated the conversation series, Dissidence Through Architecture at Architektūros Fondas, Vilnius. Jonas worked for MVRDV architects in Rotterdam and Ben Adams architects in London.

Crispin Kelly // BAYLIGHT PROPERTIES

Crispin Kelly started Baylight Properties in 1982, a business which tries to develop buildings into sustainable communities through the tools of design and robust commercial viability. His most recent project has been a 13 year long collaboration with Peter Salter on Walmer Yard.

Bryan Cantley // Form:uLA DIMENSION Laboratory

Bryan Cantley is the owner and spatial orchestrator of Form:uLA Dimension Laboratory, a highly experimental design studio just on the cusp of LA. They have been conducting architectural research and experimentation since 1992

David Roberts // RESEARCH ETHICS FELLOW, UCL

David Roberts is a tutor in Design and History & Theory at the Bartlett School of Architecture and Visiting Professor at Aarhus School of Architecture. He is Research Ethics Fellow at the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment. Alongside his teaching and research, he is part of collaborative art practice Fugitive Images.
He uses poetry and performance to explore the relation between people and place.

Cany Ash // ASK SAKULA ARCHITECTS

Cany Ash set up Ask Sakula with Robert Sakula in 1994. Ask Sakula pride themselves on their ability to work in challenging areas with fresh thinking and inventive designs.
Cany Ash has taught at a number of architecture schools and sits on the South East Design Review Panel.

Barbara Penner // UCL

Barbara Penner is a senior lecturer in Architectural History at the Bartlett. Barbara’s research covers a wide range of subjects; the domestic interior, urban infrastructures and bathrooms of all kinds.
Barbara’s current research “Subject to Design: Social Science in the Home”, proposes to study how social scientific research into user behaviour has shaped Anglo-American homes of the 20th and 21st Century.

CJ Lim // INHABITABLE INFRASTRUCTURES BOOK LAUNCH

CJ Lim will be talking about his recently published book ‘Inhabitable Infrastructures: Science fiction or urban future?’ It explores the potential of climate change- related multi-use infrastructures that address the fundamental human requirements to protect, to provide and to participate.
