This series juxtaposes threats to our existence and potential counteractions. The outer threats include: aliens (The Thing, Alien), a mutant creature (The Host) and a dying rock (Sunshine). The inner threats, created for ourselves, include: a nuclear attack on Rochester (The War Game), hatred breeding hatred (La Haine), the perils of mass addiction (Soylent Green), a rogue city-running computer (Alphaville) and student unrest (Zabriskie Point). The counteractions include: re-assessing life as found (Lagos Wide and Close + Finisterre), creating obsessively (Spiral Jetty), winning change despite oppressive systems of state (The Architects) and the artistic crime of the century (Man on Wire).
